student councilInterested in running for Student Council?
Student Council is devoted to improving and maintaining a positive student experience at SMCSS. They are responsible for planning and organizing spirit activities designed to enliven the student body. Its success depends on your involvement and enthusiasm. Some of the activities run by Student Council are: Daily Announcements, Annual Terry Fox Run, Spirit Assemblies, Halloween Events, Talent Shows, Dress Down Day Fund Raisers. Students in grades 10, and 11 and 12 elect their council in May. Council will visit all grade 9 classes in September to encourage interested students to campaign for a Student Council position. New grade 9’s will elect 3 representatives in October. Contact: Laura Dalton @SMSSCouncil social justice groupSocial Justice is based on concepts including human rights, equity, fairness, and economic egalitarianism. It requires inspiring, working with, and organizing others to collaboratively accomplish a goal consistent with these concepts.
It is a movement towards a more socially just world through the actions of a group of individuals working together to achieve its goals. Students, staff and the school community who participate in social justice actions often categorize their efforts as attempts to “give back” or to contribute to the greater good in their community or abroad. SEMi & prom committeeThe Prom Committee plans and coordinates a memorable, inclusive and safe end-of-year celebration party for the senior class. Prom memories last a lifetime. It’s important to make sure prom is worth remembering - for the things that go right, not the things that go wrong - by efficiently and effectively planning. Although a lot of detailed work may be required from the committee, in the end, the work will be worth it. With a strong committee where every committee member contributes according to their strength of time, talent and skills, the prom will undoubtedly be a success.
